Another week is here and it honestly feels like 2021 is flying by so quickly. I know, we are three weeks in, but it feels like five minutes. It appears I have reached the age where hearing things like “they just grow up way too fast” or “don’t blink” seem to resonate a little more. I think a lot of this comes from the mere fact that I am the youngest in my family. Always the last one to do everything, simply because of my age. However, I now have nieces. I keep watching them turn a year older with what feels like half an hour in between each birthday. When you mix those feelings with the reminder of the fragility of life (i.e. 2020), you get me sitting here, writing this post.
One day at a time. So cliché. Who am I? I mean aren’t we all living one day at a time. I don’t see anyone doing Tuesday’s lunch during Monday’s team meeting. Sorry, I’ll stop. But seriously, every morning when you open your eyes, you get a day. You get that one day. You can choose to speed through it carelessly like it has no weight or meaning. You can wish for the next day, Friday, weekend or even year. But, you may never get that Friday or weekend or year. So, why do we do this? Why are we so certain and entitled to a promise of so much more than just that one day.
We are humans—that’s why. While it is in my nature to forget the gift of every morning, I am going to strive to do the opposite in 2021. Waking up with a grateful heart to roll over and find my husband and our dogs. Waking up thankful for a lot. A job, food, shelter, health, family, friends, and so much more. But, before we get to all of that, I am just waking up thankful for that day. The gift of life. Another chance to make a difference, small or large.
I am going to start writing more on here again. While I enjoy posting colorful photos and sharing sales, I often overlook the content and quality of words. I spend so much time on the other things, that this part always has to give. I miss writing a lot and rarely get to do it anymore, so here we are. I want to have record of sharing my heart for me to look back on and remember where I was at in that chapter of my life on that very day. So with that, I challenge you to do something meaningful today. Make a difference in someone’s life. Do a good deed. Serve. Love. Say thank you. Take this day as a gift, because that is exactly what it is.
