There’s a first for everything. First words, first steps, first days of school. However, most “firsts” are associated with babies and toddlers. The older people get, the less they pay attention to “firsts” in life. I believe this is because these feats become smaller. How often do people celebrate their first time to try a new food (and enjoy it) or their first time to successfully bake a recipe all on their own? No matter how small these things may seem compared to a baby’s first word, they are worth celebrating. In my eyes, life is a big picture composed of a zillion small wonders. Like a puzzle, everything comes together and completes one another. Finding joy in small accomplishments in life opens up so many new doors and beginnings.
The reason I titled this post “the start of something new” is not because this is my first time to attempt blogging, but rather this is my first time to actually blog. My attempts at blogging before have been more of me trying to be like other blogs I read. The second you try to achieve someone else’s greatness, you fail. So, this is in many ways “the start of something new.” I’ve decided not to categorize my blog in just fashion or all about my life, but instead post about anything and everything I love and feel the urge to share. So here’s to the first blog by me.
You may have asked yourself, “why anchors & dreams?” Well, I have always been obsessed with anchors. This obsession only grew when I joined a sorority that uses anchors as the main symbol. However, my love for anchors and Delta Gamma are not the only reasons behind my blog title. Anchors to me represent firm beliefs and values. One of my favorite Bible verses, Hebrews 6:19, says “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…” I love how it uses hope as an anchor for our souls. How beautifully said is that? Anchors to me are the ones or things in your life that keep you grounded, keep you being you. I have so many anchors in my life. From God to my family and friends and my passions in life, my soul is sure to stand firm in what I believe. In many ways, I consider this blog a new anchor in my life. The things I write about are simply me. My thoughts strung together in several words recorded for whoever wants to read. Consider everything I write about a passion of mine and therefore an anchor in my life. As for the “dreams” part of the title, not only will I be writing about my passions and anchors in life, but also my dreams. All of these things go hand in hand. I have dreams for my future that came from everything I am passionate about. I would go into detail about my aspirations, but that is another post within itself. So there we have it, “anchors and dreams.” I spent several hours thinking of the perfect name, and the more I write about it, the more I realize how perfect it is.
Now, I should probably wind things up. Let the journey of blogging begin.
